PRESS RELEASE: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 2.25.2016

Local Duxbury Author’s Debut Novel is at Westwinds / Unrest (A Coming of Age Story Beneath the Alborz Mountains)

UNREST is a literary version of the movie Argo, but it chronicles the events leading up to the Iranian hostage crisis and what became known as 1979's Iranian Revolution. Impressionable American teenager, Annie Patterson, plucked from her comfortable existence in the American Midwest, is traveling to join her Lt. Colonel father in Tehran, Iran. It’s the late 1970s, and unbeknownst to the Patterson family, Iran is on the verge of phenomenal and unprecedented change.

Sandra Heath says: “It is true that UNREST is timely and relevant. The idea for my book was easy - I lived it. I wanted to write a story about an American teenager living in Iran during the coming of the Iranian Revolution in the 1970s. I knew that a memoir would be less effective than fiction. The novel’s vivid passages were the product of my own experience living there during the last half of 1978. Many a creative writing teacher has uttered these words, "Write what you know." But if I wanted to hold anyone's interest beyond the enthralling historical facts of the time, I had to embellish and create! Writing this story was hugely emotional and cathartic for me. Not only was it an important time in the history of the unraveling of the United States' relations with Iran, it is pertinent to today's bid to improve them.”

The paperback version is available at Westwinds Bookshop, 35 Depot Street, Duxbury, or for order on-line through Amazon.

About the Author

Sandra Ann Heath grew up around the world, including Iran, Greece, England, Germany and the United States. In 1978, her family was relocated to Iran where this fictional story takes place. She now lives in Duxbury with her husband and two sons. She collects sea glass on Duxbury Beach and takes to rubbing it like worry beads, as was the custom in Iran.
